About Paul Bongé

Paul Bongé Photographer is an outlet for the promotion of his work as a photographer and less about soliciting clients. His primary aim is to make his photographs more available to the public.

"I photograph because I need to. Recognition for what I do is secondary and the most pleasing to me is first that an image I make says, 'I am a good image, well composed, crafted and seen.' Beyond that, when others also derive some enjoyment from an image or it impacts them somehow, that too is my intention.

"My visual vocabulary, that which informs my 'seeing', is made up for the most part by a subjective artistic sensibility more akin to that which motivated the Abstract Expressionists. Photography in the simplest equation is 'documentation of a supposed reality' and the necessity of conscious manipulation of technology, and composing within the view finder would presumably subsume the subjective in that case. Where those two elements collide successfully is where something 'artful' is created, somewhere between conscious manipulation and subconscious motivation."

Paul is also very involved in the ongoing process of archiving and cataloging his father Lyle's work, both prints and negatives. The project is working toward a national retrospective exhibition of his work and the publication of another book or two of his photographs. The Lyle Bongé Estate & Archive page on this site will go into more detail and offer a link for those interested to keep abreast of activities involving the photography of Lyle Bongé.

Our "Links" page will give you access to The Dusti Bongé Art Foundation and other interesting art and life-related topics.
